New York students meet with Mandela
幸运的纽约高中生与曼德拉会面
It was a day to remember for 12 lucky young New Yorkers. As part of a series of activities ahead of Mandela Day on July 18, 12 high school students won a competition that required them to submit creative projects on Nelson Mandela's life and legacy. The prize? A trip to South Africa to meet the man himself.
The competition was organized by 46664, Mandela's global HIV/AIDS awareness group named after his prison number when he was held captive on Robben Island in the 1970's and 80's.

Boeing 787 Dreamliner faces yet another delay

Boeing's 787 Dreamliner airplane is facing yet another delay, the company announced Tuesday, this time saying it needed to reinforce a section of the aircraft before starting test flights.
The 787 is a medium-size plane that is expected to become the backbone of airlines' long-haul fleets, replacing the Boeing 767.
Boeing has not set a new date for the airplane's first flight, the company statement said.
"It will be several weeks before the new schedule is available," the statement added.

It was just before dawn, and the operating room, powered by a rumbling generator, was the only spot of light in this village of mud huts and maize fields. A mask with a frayed cord was fastened over the woman’s face. Moments later the cloying smell of ether filled the room, and then Emmanuel Makanza picked up his instruments and made the first cut for a Caesarean section.
Mr. Makanza is not a doctor, a fact that illustrates both the desperation and the creativity of Tanzanians fighting to reduce the number of deaths and injuries among pregnant women and infants.
Pregnancy and childbirth kill more than 536,000 women a year, more than half of them in Africa, according to the World Health Organization.

This time, Nokia (
NOK) and Intel (INTC) said they're embarking on a long-term partnership to create mobile products that combine high-performance computing with high-speed wireless communication. As part of the alliance, Nokia will buy Intel chips while Intel licenses Nokia's mobile-phone radio technology.
