我们都知道，knockout在拳击比赛中指的是“击倒对方的一拳”，如：He won the fight by a knockout.（他一拳击倒对手，获得胜利。）报道中的knockout意思是“淘汰赛”。Knockout可作形容词用，表示“淘汰的”，例如：a knockout tournament（淘汰赛）；The championship should be run on a knockout system.（这次锦标赛应该采取淘汰赛制。）口语中，knockout还可表示“引人注目的”，如a knockout woman。knockout 的动词形式是knock out。
