每一届奥运会，主题歌都是大众关注的焦点之一。一些经典奥运会主题歌一直传唱到今天，成为奥林匹克宝贵的文化遗产。而能成为主题歌的演唱者，对歌手来讲也是至高无上的荣誉。那么“奥运会主题歌”用英文怎么表达呢？

　　A theme song can be rehearsed in the privacy of a studio or even a living room. That makes it much more difficult to predict who will sing the all-important tune, which will be guaranteed a zillion air plays in the next year.
　　主题歌可能会在一个秘密工作室甚至某个普通房间里进行排练。这样一来，想要预测谁会演唱这首来年将被广泛传播的歌曲就更难了。
　　上述报道中，theme song是“主题歌”，Olympic theme song就是“奥运会主题歌”，有时候也可以用theme tone来表示“主题歌”的意思；如果要表示“主题曲”这个更加宽泛的概念，则可以用theme music.

“奥林匹克休战”

　联合国秘书长潘基文和第62届联合国大会主席克里姆28日分别发表声明，呼吁世界各国在北京奥运会和残疾人奥运会期间，实行"奥林匹克休战"."奥林匹克休战"是国际奥委会根据古希腊神圣休战的做法设计的一项和平活动。1993年10月，联大通过决议，恢复了这一古希腊传统。

　　UN leaders have this week called for an Olympic Truce, a cessation of all hostilities worldwide for the duration of the Beijing Olympic Games and Paralympic Games.

　　联合国领导人于本周呼吁世界各国在北京奥运会和残疾人奥运会期间，实行"奥林匹克休战".

　　The calls, made by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and President of the UN General Assembly Srgjan Kerim respectively on Monday, reflect the Olympic spirit and the mankind's dream for peace as well as the joint aspirations of the whole international community.

　　联合国秘书长潘基文和联大主席斯尔詹o克里姆在本周一分别发出的这一休战呼吁，反应了奥林匹克精神、人类追求和平的梦想，以及整个国际社会渴望和平的共同愿望。

　　上述报道中，Olympic Truce就是"奥林匹克休战"，truce指的是a state of peace agreed to between opponents 或者a cessation of all hostilities；那么"宣布休战"就是declaration of truce，而"停火、停战"是ceasefire；而与他们意思相反的"宣战"则是declaration of war或者to declare war.

奥运“颁奖礼服”

北京2008年奥运会颁奖礼仪服饰及主要颁奖元素发布会近日在北京“798”艺术区举行，发布了奥运会颁奖专业志愿者将在颁奖仪式上穿着的礼服和礼仪用鞋，同时发布了颁奖台、颁奖花束、运动员获奖证书等主要颁奖元素。

　　A total of five series of costumes will be worn by hostesses at the 302 medal ceremonies of the August 8-24 Games, with each series being designed for certain sports events. Each series of the costumes feature three styles of suits - each for tray holders, medal presenter escorts and athlete escorts.
　　在8月8日到24日奥运会比赛的302个颁奖仪式上礼仪小姐将会身穿五个系列的颁奖礼服出现，每个系列的礼服会出现在不同的比赛现场。每一系列还分别按照托盘员、颁奖嘉宾引导员和运动员引导员的不同职能设计了三个不同款式。
　　上述报道中，medal ceremony是“颁奖仪式”，costume for medal ceremony就是“颁奖礼服”，tray holder是“托盘员”，medal presenter escort是“颁奖嘉宾引导员”，而athlete escort则是“运动员引导员”。另外，奥运会“颁奖台”也同时出炉，“颁奖台”的英文表达是podium of the Olympic medal ceremony.

奥林匹克徽章

从8月1日起，北京奥运会奥林匹克官方纪念章交换中心正式对外开放，奥林匹克官方纪念章交换中心分别设立在朝阳公园、北京展览馆和世贸天阶广场三个地点，这些交换中心全部由可口可乐公司负责搭建和营运。

　　About 100 sweating Olympic pin collectors braved temperatures higher than 35 C to trade their stockpiles with fellow hobbyists at the opening of the Coca-Cola Olympic venue Sunday.
　　上周日，在可口可乐公司奥运中心，上百名奥林匹克徽章收集者顶着35摄氏度的高温到那里跟其他徽章收集爱好者交换彼此的藏品。
　　Pin collecting has gained international recognition as an "unofficial Olympic sport", and the event attracted traders and spectators from every corner of China and the globe.
　　徽章收集已经在国际上被公认为是“非官方的奥林匹克运动”，此项活动已经吸引了世界各地的徽章交换者和观赏者。
　　上述报道中，Olympic pin是“奥林匹克徽章”或者“奥林匹克纪念章”，“纪念章/徽章交换中心”就是pin trading center，来自世界各地的“徽章收集者”则是pin collector.

奥运观光“动车组”下线　

我国首批为北京奥运会特别打造的4列“和谐号”内燃动车组旅游专线列车，日前完成线路试验，全部下线，将于奥运期间正式运行于北京至八达岭之间。通车后，全程运行只需约1小时20分钟，比原先节省近一半时间。

　　Four high-speed trains, the first of their kind made only for sightseeing during the Beijing Olympics, have rolled off production line recently. The Diesel Multiple Unit （DMU） trains will only serve the rail line between urban Beijing and the Badaling section of the Great Wall.
　　首批为北京奥运会特别打造的4列高速观光列车于日前下线。这些内燃动车组列车将专门运行于北京城区和八达岭之间。
　　上述报道中，Diesel Multiple Unit是“内燃动车组”，简称DMU；Multiple Unit是“动车组”，Electric Multiple Unit是“电力动车组”，而“动车组列车”就是Multiple Unit train；那么“观光动车组”就可以翻译为Multiple Unit trains for sightseeing.
