很多纽约人迟早都将面临是否迁居市郊的问题。对更大的房子、更好的学校、更多的绿化以及较低的房租或房贷的渴望，迫使人们把眼光放到纽约市区的5大区之外。那些仍然想要轻松往返两地的生活的人，通常会转而考虑新泽西，较受欢迎的地段包括查塔姆（Chatham）、蒙特卡（Montclair）和赛密特（Summit）。这些地区都有不错的餐馆和高档的购物中心，这对那些已被“放逐”、但仍然向往繁华的纽约上东区或者家庭办公的人来说，多少是个安慰。

Sooner or later, many New Yorkers face the suburb question. A desire for a bigger home, better schools, more greenery and less expensive rent or mortgage payments forces them to look beyond the city’s five boroughs. Those who still want an easy commute often turn to New Jersey, where the usual destinations include Chatham, Montclair and Summit, all of which offer fine dining and upscale malls that somewhat placate exiles still pining for SoHo or the Upper East Side.

In the rush to vacate the city, however, there is another New Jersey locale, with an entirely different take on suburban life, which frequently gets overlooked. Located on the flank of West Orange, just 25 minutes by car from downtown Manhattan, Llewellyn Park is an idyll that’s been uninterrupted for 150 years and long shielded from real estate brokers.
