A cloudless warm summer afternoon ideal for an open-air-concert, add a worldclass orchestra like the the "Wiener Philharmoniker" and a Conductor like Zubin Mehta and of course our Lang, there is nothing to beat that. As we arrived early we strolled around Sch?nbrunn castle and watched Lang and the orchestra rehearsing Chopin. We also saw Mama Lang listening and met and greeted Lang, and for a chance took a few daylight fotos, when he went to relax before the evening concert. I also handed him Ayumi,s package of last week same time, and he well remembered her.
The concert started with the overture to "Oberon", then it was Lang with Chopin,s concert for piano and orchestra nr. 2.I had problems handing my flowers to him, as the stage was very high and there was a camera-channel between Lang and me, so I left them at the stage rim and many fotos of them were taken by bypassing strollers. After the intermission we heard Beethoven,s 5th Symphony brilliantly played by Zubin Mehta and the Wiener Philharmoniker and this time full applause.
After an encore Maestro Mehta laughing reminded the audience that there had been too little applause for Lang after his Chopin concert but due to combined India-China-power Lang was now to play his encore. Now the whole situation changed: Lang played his encore, then convinced Mehta and the orchestra to play another, then Mehta pushed Lang to the piano again. So the evening ended with laughters and long standing ovations for Lang and the orchestra by an enthusiastic crowd.
We met Lang again later when he was on his way to the VIP reception, but he still had time to greet me with a hug. Now a group of bystanding Chinese wanted to know everthing about Lang and they even asked me to take off my brand new Lang-Lang-adidas-shoes for fotos. With thanks and lot of laughter they left. To my surprise already next morning I found in the internet a letter of thanks by one of that group, who was a journalist and had put my foto with the shoes into a Shanghai newspaper.
