What can we do on Mid-autumn Day besides eating mooncakes?
Mid-autumn Day is a special day for the reunion of family members and friends. It is a sweet day because of not only the mooncake’s flavor but also the joy from the gathering. In my mind, mooncakes are actually a culture far more than only a type of food. Whatever material or ingredients a mooncake is made of, all the mooncakes share the same shape. That is circle. In China’s traditional culture, circle stands for complete gathering of a whole family. Therefore, eating mooncake has become an irreplaceable means to enjoy the festival as well as express the good wish of being together. To some extent, it is like the Thanksgiving Day in America, on which all family members sit together to celebrate the reunion and express thanks to each other. The difference is that they eat turkey while we enjoy mooncakes.
When asked, what is the typical feature of mid-autumn day? Everyone must reply the mooncake or eating mooncake. However, here I would like to ask you, my dear friend, do you really care for mooncakes. To be honest, I have little interest in eating them. Sweet is not my taste. Several days ago, one of my friends sent me a box of mooncakes. (By the way, his wife is a teacher, receiving a lot of mooncakes from the students. So it might remind you the previous topic, who should be blamed for gift-sending? ) The box of mooncake was with beautiful and classical decoration, easily enkindling one’s desire to taste it. However, the taste of the mooncakes is just so so. For me, nearly all the mooncake tastes same flavor. Only one piece is enough for me to digest. In other words, eating mooncake turns to be formalism that I should eat it no matter I like it or not. Oh, my God. Who can help me?
So, what can we do on mid-autumn Day besides eating mooncakes? Three options pop up in my mind for your kind reference: to enjoy flower, to enjoy moon, and to enjoy Qiu Xiang. Then someone may feel confused and ask me who or what Qiu Xiang is. I can not help laughing, as the Qiu Xiang is a beautiful lady in a movie “唐伯虎点秋香”. Just imagine, you and your own “Qiuxiang” (your lover) walk slowly among bouquets, eating mooncake while seeing the full moon. You two walk hand in hand. The scene easily spires one’s content, isn’t it? Of course, the above mentioned three options are for fun. We have many things to do, but the key point is that you had better be with your friends or family. During the working days, we struggle for life and have no time of sharing our minds. On the special day, every should slow down the life pace and sit around a table to enjoy a meal or game or whatever. Just being together.
Last but not the least, let’s get back to the mooncake. Eating mooncakes has been a culture or custom on mid-autumn day, just like that people usually eat dumplings in lunar spring festival. However, there’s difference between mooncakes and dumplings. The latter are popular and eaten over a whole year, while the former are only enjoyed for no more than a month. No one will feel strange that the price of the mooncake often fall sharply after middle-autumn day. May it show that mooncake are not delicious as dumplings? If so, I should be normal even though I have little passion on mooncake.
Finally, wish all my friends and whoever know me a wonderful middle-autumn day!
