这个节日为期两天，根据印度日历而言通常是二月或三月。第一天晚上，人们会用高高的篝火圆木和干干的灌木开始庆祝(kick off 喻义开始)，象征着烧死恶魔Holika(印度神话中的形象)。第二天叫做Dhuleti，炫彩的颜色就从那天开始。大街上无论男女老少，脸上画着五颜六色的涂漆染料或者交换礼物，家人们会聚在一起迎接春天的到来，庆祝驱逐恶魔的胜利。

每年，法国人在猪节之际都会赞颂他们认为地球上最伟大却容易被误解的动物——猪。猪节每年的8月中旬在Trie Sur Baise的小镇举行，那里曾经上法国最大的养猪场。节日里有给孩子们玩的小猪游戏，还包括在一场令人啼笑皆非的宴会上大吃特吃。不过最具吸引力的当属每年一度的猪叫大赛。经验老到的参赛者会在模仿猪出生、死亡及其它时候的猪叫声时独占聚光灯。
