The Employer shall be entitled to retain an amount of any of his claim against the Contractor whether liquidated or unliquidated, arising out of the contract under reference or otherwise and set off the same protanto against any amount payable to the Contractor under the contract under reference or otherwise, however, without prejudice and in addition to the other rights of the Employer to recover the amount of any such claim as aforesaid.

应该说有道理，雇主保留向承包人索赔的量的权利，清算还是不清算由雇主说了算。

There are so many legal terms in this sentence: without prejudice, pro-tanto (a latin term ~= for so much), setoff, under reference. So I feel a bit confused. Do you like translating this kind of sentence? or is it your job?

UNLIQUIDATED CLAIM - A claim is unliquidated when the amount of it cannot be mathematically calculated, or if it subject to a contingency.

LIQUIDATED CLAIM - A "liquidated" claim is a right or a demand (even if disputed) to payment in a sum certain. An example of a liquidated claim is a promissory note for $10,000.00. One can examine the claim and determine its value by simple calculation.

i saw this sentence on the internet and without a Chinese translation .i am so confused by this sentence.

liquidated or unliquidated 是修饰 claim 的。
仿造一句：I am entitled to buy any type of food from the supermarket whether cooked or uncooked according to my daily needs.

呵呵，这个在我第一遍看句子的时候就发现了，只是照发上来的，我想只有一个词应该还不至于影响到对于整句的翻译吧

你这种态度就是错的，我们替别人翻译尽管在客观上做不到绝对准确，但是至少明显的错误是应该尽力避免的。这是帮助者对于手帮助者的责任。一个词怎么就不能影响整个句子？难道要别人的中文翻译里边还要夹着一个英文单词吗？
